Once upon a time, in a snowy field far, far away...
Kehda and Cotton were but young kittens when a terrible tragedy separated them from the rest of their hybrid seeker/keeper tribe, somewhere in the snowy wilds of Coerthas. If not for the intervention of a kindly Elezen astrologian, Lady Bailedine, their story may have been much shorter, but under her tutelage they both bounced back with a vengeance. She gave them a thorough Ishgardian education, which some cattes take to better than others... Kehda’s inherited wanderlust and acquired dislike of snow led to her fleeing Ishgard for the more temperate Gridania, where nights are balmy and arrows (and teeth) are sharp. Kehda was delighted to escape the cold monotony of Ishgard, and blossomed amongst the trees, learning how to get into (and out of) trouble in a myriad of new and exciting ways.
While in Gridania, they hear plenty of rumors around town about the miqo’te ‘poachers’ who live in the Black Shroud, and a potent blend of homesickness, curiosity, and anti-authoritarian tendencies led her to seek them out, looking for friends (and maybe, secretly, a quiet hope of finding her original family.) In her time with them she picks up all sorts of bad habits, but also some equally useful life skills. Kehda develops a fascination for plants, especially those with hallucinogenic properties—she claims they help with her divination, which was never quite up to the standards of Lady B, but the data is, as of yet, inconclusive.
Eventually even the towering trees of the Black Shroud started to feel restrictive, so she left Gridania to travel the world, looking to learn new skills and help those in need (and make just enough money to live on while they’re at it). Most of her wanderings are led by the stars, and whenever she feels lost or uncertain she turns to them for guidance--they remind her of family (hi Cotton) and home… long damp nights in the snow, staring up at the bright stars, little balls of fire and light and warmth, just out of reach. (There might be something there to unpack that would help with her astromancy, but Kehda, uh, isn’t there yet).
They are an excellent archer, but a genuinely terrible singer, to the regret of anyone who finds themself in an adventuring party with her. She’s not a fan of bureaucracy, but deals with it fairly adeptly (when she feels like it) thanks to Lady Bailedine’s tutelage. She’s not terribly trusting of strangers, but is willing to give people the benefit of the doubt (especially if they have an escape plan already prepared. You don’t have to trust someone if you’re already halfway out the door!) So deep emotional connections are rare, but she gets along well with people. She doesn’t like being alone, and loves her brother immensely.
Currently, they find odd jobs as a healer, or mercenary, or messenger, picking up shifts at Mimosa Manor between adventures. She LOVES the beach and the ocean, and if she’s home and has nowhere in particular to be, Kehda can probably be found baking in the sand.
